Your Initial Consultation
Our medical team will start by engaging in a thorough discussion of your medical history and examining the areas of concern. We have a high level of expertise in vascular imaging and can perform a comprehensive ultrasound assessment of your condition at the same time during the consultation to save you time and unnecessary additional investigations.
Following this evaluation, the results will be carefully reviewed with you. Our dedicated doctor will take the time to address any questions you may have regarding your condition. Once various treatment options have been discussed, we will provide you with a detailed cost estimate and treatment schedule.
Typically, this initial consultation spans approximately one hour. If you opt to proceed with treatment, we will make every effort to offer you the earliest available appointment. At MediVein, we generally do not perform same-day treatments. For out-of-town patients, we can arrange special treatment plans and telehealth appointments to help cut down on travel requirements.

Private health funds do not provide any rebate towards Out of Hospital treatments. If treatments are required to be performed in the Private Hospital, especially in cases where patients require light sedation or general anaesthetics, then some of the costs may be covered by your health funds depending on the level of hospital cover. It is important to note that there may be a gap or out-of-pocket component to the procedure fee and the anaesthetic fee.
To minimise out-of-pocket cost of treatment, it is recommended you have a valid referral and complete all of your treatment in the same calendar year.
Please enquire about finance options after the consultation if it is not possible for you to pay upfront for a needed medical procedure.

Can you explain the diagnostic process for vascular conditions?
We will do a comprehensive consultation that includes an in-house radiological assessment of the vascular condition which will save you time and money. The scan is performed by the endovascular specialist who is an expert on vascular imaging. Sometimes if more complex investigation is required, then our specialist will refer you for more in-depth tests.
Are the non-invasive treatments painful or uncomfortable?
Most of the time, the endovascular treatments can be performed under local anaesthetics or sedation, avoiding the need for general anaesthesia which can have risks on your cardiovascular and lung health. The interventions involve a “pin-hole” technique with no major scars, as oppose to open surgery which involves a large incision. The equipment used inside your vessels are very advanced and fine instruments that patients cannot feel while having the procedure. Pain and discomfort are therefore minimal and recovery afterward is generally faster without having to be admitted into hospital. For a mum with young children and people with busy work commitment, they are able to return to normal duties 1-2 days after the procedure.
Do you offer financing options for patients without insurance coverage?
Dr Li has appointment at both the private and public hospital, with the ability offer you the right treatment in a setting most appropriate for your financial circumstance.
Where will I have my procedure?
Our clinic offer varicose vein treatment and all of the associated aftercare and sclerotherapy injections on site and not in the hospital (unless general anaesthesia is required). This allows patient to walk in and walk out immediately after the treatment. There is no extra administration, waiting period or extra hospital admission costs. It is a streamlined and smooth experience for you to have scan, treatment and follow ups at the same location.
For more complex conditions that require endovascular or imaging guided intervention at the hospital, Dr Li treats patients at Westmead Hospital, Concord Hospital and Northern Beaches Hospital,
Are there any potential risks or side effects associated with non-invasive vascular treatments?
As with any operation, there are risks and side effects. Compared to traditional open surgery such as vein ligation and stripping, endovenous laser treatment has much less side effects whilst offering the same superior results and effectiveness for eliminating varicose veins. The major one is Deep Vein Thrombosis which is substantially reduced in non-invasive treatments because you are up and walking without pain immediately afterwards. Nearly always patients experience more pain and immobility with open traditional surgery. They have to stay in the hospital and stay at home for longer during recovery. Infection rates and scarring are also less of an issue with non- invasive vascular treatments. Dr Li will clearly explain the risks and benefits of non-invasive treatments to you and explain the options of traditional surgery as part of the informed consent
